Sunday Mornings
Our 11:00am Sunday Mass welcomes worshippers of all ages. We think the sound of children in church is beautiful and we want them to know that they are loved by our Heavenly Father.
The Play and Pray area is stocked with activities based on the Scripture readings that day and is a great place for small children to learn and explore the faith at their own pace. It can also help little ones who are full of wriggles to let them out playing with the toys which have been carefully selected to be wholesome and age-appropriate.
We believe parents are the best experts in how to disciple their children so we offer resources that can be used to help younger people engage with what’s going on in the Service and can be taken away for faith formation at home.

Hello, my name is Minerva and I am the Children and Families’ Worker at St Matthew’s Church, Carver Street in Sheffield. I started this role in September 2024, and I work 16 hours per week. I can be reached mainly on Wednesdays and Fridays.
I love working with children. I have an educational background in psychology and in special education. I have taught children in mainstream and special educational settings. Returning to work I realise how much I have missed doing work of service in the community.
I am very excited and consider it a privilege to be one of the pioneers in laying the foundation and framework of the Children’s Ministry at St Matthew’s; the church where I and my husband and our 2 little children have found the care and support of a larger Family. In the Play and Pray children’s area inside the church, children and their families can find age-appropriate material to engage in during Sunday morning mass. The materials and toys are also available throughout the week for families who wish to drop in with their children (toilets and baby change facilities are available through the adjoining door to the Art House).
I am especially excited about Little Prints, our weekly drop-in group for children ages 0-4 years and their parents/carers. This group runs on Fridays, term time only, from 10:30 AM to 12 PM and has elements of worship via singing with live piano by St Matthew’s talented Director of Music, godly play once per month, and health and wellbeing support once per month by a qualified member of the Parish Nursing Team. After the group, children and their parents and carers are welcome to join in the 12:30 PM mass.
Finally, I welcome and support the involvement of parents and carers as volunteers so please get in touch for more information about the role description and safety requirements to get you onboard the team! I am very excited to see how God will use me—in partnership and collaboration with the whole team involved—to make a positive difference showing and extending Christ’s love and joy within our community.
